Dr. VanBruggen specializes in general surgery.
As a general surgeon, Dr. Thomas VanBruggen specializes in the surgical treatment of a variety of diseases and conditions which involve the breast, stomach, esophagus, pancreas, gallbladder, lower intestines, hernia and abdomen.
Dr. VanBruggen received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, IA. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. VanBruggen currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Minnesota Department of Family Practice and Community Health. He is also an active member in several medical organizations, including American College of Surgeons, American Society of Abdominal Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.
He has been with Wadena Medical Center and Tri-County Hospital since 1980. Dr. VanBruggen enjoys being a surgeon in Wadena because of the great patient he treats, as well as the constant challenges he encounters in his practice.

Off Duty Interests and Activities:
In his spare time, Dr. VanBruggen enjoys being at the lake, motorcycling, welding and being outdoors. He and his wife, Linda, have three children and one grandchild. They reside in Wadena.
