Dr. Schmidt specializes in family medicine.
As a family practice physician, Dr. Shaneen Schmidt is trained in all major areas of family practice and is qualified to care for most of the medical needs of the entire family, from infants to the elderly.
Dr. Schmidt received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Upon completing her residency in Grand Forks, N.D., she joined Wadena Medical Center in 1999. She is board certified in family practice, which means she has fulfilled the necessary criteria established by the regulating board and has passed examinations that accredit her in the field of family practice.
Dr. Schmidt is a native of Carlton, Minn. She chose to begin her practice in Wadena because of the diverse cross-section of patients, as well as the small-town atmosphere with supportive partners.
What Dr. Schmidt likes most about being a family practice physician is the challenges that are involved with caring for a wide range of patients, from newborns to senior citizens.
“I feel privileged that I am allowed to be a part of my patients’ families in providing comprehensive medical care,” said Dr. Schmidt.

Off Duty Interests and Activities:
In her free time, Dr. Schmidt enjoys spending time with her family, reading science fiction, golf, volleyball, fishing, remodeling her home and cheering on the Minnesota Twins.
She and her husband, Kent, reside in Wadena with their four children – twin daughters Zoe and Kate, son Michael and daughter Ryann.
