Services provided, procedures, programs, and referral patterns:

Diagnostic Imaging is a full-service department with Dr. Gerald McCullough, MD, as full-time radiologist. More than 25,000 procedures per year are performed for TCH and the Wadena Medical Center by their staff of 10 registered radiologic technologists and two registered sonographers.

X-rays are produced in two radiographic rooms, one of which has digital fluoroscopy. One portable machine is used for bedside exams and a digital C-Arm is available for surgical and other specialty procedures.

Utilizing state-of-the-art digital mammography with CAD (computer aided detection), over 2,000 mammograms are done annually at TCH. We are an approved mammography facility accredited by American College of Radiology, the Food and Drug Administration, and the MN Department of Health. We are also a SAGE Grant facility. Staff mammography technologists are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Approximately 150 ultrasound studies are done per month, with about half of those being obstetric with 3D ultrasound available. Vascular exams, such as carotid and extremity and Doppler exams are performed as well.  Echocardiogram services are provided by a mobile service twice weekly.

In-house CT averages 300 scans per month. Mobile MRI services are here five days per week and average 95 procedures per month. Mobile Nuclear Medicine is also available weekly including nuclear cardiology studies. A state of the art bone density, or DEXA, scanner is has been installed in the imaging department which evaluates patients who may have "fragile" bones, or osteoporosis. Teleradiology is available for emergency reads when Dr. McCullough is unavailable for consultation.

PACS (permanent archiving and communication system) and CR (computed radiography) provide a totally digital department with portability of all our imaging modalities.
